Welcome to foodmicrobe.com

The homepage for Prof Steve Forsythe

The two main goals in my career have been to better understand food borne pathogens, and to train others to go further. This site covers not only my research into improved detection methods, pathogen characterization and virulence studies, but also links to online resources centered around the books that I have been published. Please note I am still updating this site as I have left Nottingham Trent University, and am building up a portfolio of independent activities such as bespoke courses for industry, as well as continuing as advisor to governmental organisations and giving visiting Professor lectures etc. Please take your time to review my publications, many of which are accessible for direct download from Publications. My earlier research, when I was at Nottingham Trent University, was rated 4* in REF2014, and formed part of their Queens Anniversary Award to the University in 2016. I am still the curator for the PubMLST Cronobacter database (Link), which holds sequence and source details of >2000 strains and >500 whole genomes.

I run various courses on general food microbiology, and advanced food microbiology which include microbial bioinformatics, genomic epidemiology and outbreak investigations. Please contact me via "steve.forsythe@foodmicrobe.com" for details.

The Information page currently works primarily alongside the older 2nd Edition of 'The Microbiology of Safe Food'. However this is currently being revised in order to compliment the 3rd edition which was published January 2020.
